The new Netflix series Medical Police promises to bring the irreverant comedy stylings of the cult comedy Children's Hospital to a broader audience as it expands the world of the long-running Adult Swim series through the characters played Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel.
For the uninitiated, Hayes and Huebel portray Lola Adolf Spratt and Owen Maestro. Lola is not only a brilliant doctor, but also a lawyer, a Muslim, a ventriloquist, and someone who once faked her own death to avoid too many emails. Her former boyfriend Owen is also a doctor, and a former New York City police officer (where he was partnered with Nick Offerman’s character Briggs). You may know him as the star of this very famous GIF (from Children's Hospital).
Medical Police will see these two unlikely partners recruited by the US government to find a cure for a civilization-threatening virus. In the process, they'll uncover a dark conspiracy that will take them around the world. While this is very much Hayes and Huebel's show (they are the only two characters to appear in all ten of the show's episodes), they're supported both in front and behind the camera by a cast of comedy all-stars the likes of which we've rarely seen.
Here's a look at who's appearing in the show (and where you've seen them in the past):
In addition to her Emmy-nominated turn on Children’s Hospital, you may know Hayes from shows including Worst Week and Guys With Kids, as well as her one-season as Kevin James’s wife on Kevin Can Wait, after which she was famously killed off to make way for Leah Remini.
Best known as Len in Transparent, Huebel has guest starred on dozens of TV shows since his comedy troupe Human Giant broke through on MTV (his comedy partners were Aziz Ansari and Paul Scheer).
One of the show's co-creators, Corddry has starred in Ballers, Hot Tub Time Machine, and The Unicorn. The former Daily Show correspondent created and starred in Children's Hospital as Blake, the Patch Adams-styled doctor in clown makeup.
Medical Police's other co-creator, Wain created Wet Hot American Summer franchise, directing the 2001 film and the subsequent two Netflix spin-off series. Fans of MTV's seminal sketch series The Slate will remember him as "The Jew" in the show's classic sketch "The Jew, the Italian, and the Redhead Gay."
The star of NBC's 2018 comedy I Feel Bad, Sarayu Blue has appeared in Veep, Two and Half Men, Big Bang Theory and Grey's Anatomy, although for this project she may be channeling her experiences from when she was on NCIS: Los Angeles.
Known for his starring roles in Party Down, Marry Me, Burning Love, and Childrens Hospital, Marino has appeared in countless TV shows and films, including Wet Hot American Summer, Veronica Mars, Reno 911! and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Another alum of Children's Hospital, Ackerman got her big break in HBO's The Comeback. Her many film roles include starring opposite Ben Stiller in The Heartbreak Kid, and playing Laurie Jupiter / Silk Spectre II in the 2009 Watchmen film.
The Bless This Mess star played one of the lead roles on Children’s Hospital and is a regular on the romantic comedy film circuit. She also wrote, directed, and starred in the acclaimed feature film In a World...
In between his legendary Happy Days role and his Emmy-winning turn on HBO’s Barry, Winkler appeared in Children's Hospital as a hospital administrator, ingeniously named “Mittleman.”
Don Draper himself is no stranger to comedy, following memorable turns on SNL and 30 Rock. He appeared on Children's Hospital as Derrick Children, the namesake and owner of the hospital.
Best known for his roles in The Office and his own series, Mr. Robinson, the comic recently appeared alongside Eddie Murphy in My Name is Dolemite.
The sometime musician and frequent Wes Anderson collaborator's previous TV projects include HBO’s Bored to Death, Fargo and Mozart in the Jungle.
The Arrested Development and Superbad star appeared in Children's Hospital as the intercom voice of Sal Viscuso (who was named after a similar character in M*A*S*H).
The Community and Talk Soup star has been popping up on shows across the dial over the last couple of yearsyears, including Santa Clarita Diet, The X-Files and The Masked Singer.
A favorite of Woody Allen (he's appeared in seven Allen films), character actor Fred Melamed recently appeared as the agent to Steve Carell's Mitch Kessler in The Morning Show.
