And with that, another season of The View has come to an end. The Season 24 finale on August 6 saw the women of The View bid two farewells: one to viewers, and one to Meghan McCain, who is leaving the iconic talk show after four seasons in the conservative hot heat. ABC has not yet said who will replace her when the show returns for its landmark 25th season, but fans should expect to see an announcement in the weeks ahead.
With The View’s return-to-studio and co-host plans up in the air, fans likely have questions about the show’s summer hiatus — and what comes next. When does The View come back? Who will be on The View Season 25? Here’s everything you need to know about The View’s summer break:
You bet it is! On Friday, August 6, The View aired its final live show of Season 24. The co-hosts will have a few weeks off for some well-deserved R&R before returning in the fall.
Yes, The View is technically on during its regular time slot (weekdays at 11/10c), but viewers will be watching re-runs of episodes that aired live earlier in the season. While the show is on hiatus, ABC will air encore presentations of select episodes, including interviews with Sen. Chuck Schumer, My Unorthodox Life star Julia Haart, and Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, so if you missed a guest the first time around, now’s your chance to tune in.
The View is expected to return from hiatus on Tuesday, September 7, the day after Labor Day.
Shortly before the Fourth of July, McCain announced that she would be leaving The View at the end of this season due to the logistical challenges of living in Washington, D.C. and doing the show in New York City. “This show is one of the, hands down, greatest, most exhilarating, wonderful privileges of my entire life,” she told her co-hosts when she publicly announced her departure. “You are the most talented women in all of television.”
McCain has not yet revealed the bulk of her post-View plans, but it seems that she’ll be sticking with entertainment: in July, Lifetime announced that the former co-host will executive produce a film adaptation of Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff starring Heather Locklear.
ABC has not yet announced its panel for Season 25, but it's likely that Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines will all return in the fall, with Ana Navarro stepping in as a guest co-host when needed.
24 years into its run, The View is nowhere near getting canceled. In fact, while many news and opinion shows suffered ratings declines during the first few months of the Biden administration, The View just wrapped one of its most successful seasons ever, with episodes averaging 2.312 million viewers (up 2% from this time last year) in its final weeks.
