Sony Pictures Television’s TriStar is developing the potential series on the iconic African American activist with Shabazz. The series would be based on X: A Novel, which she co-wrote with Kekla Magoon, and The Awakening of Malcolm X, which was co-written with Tiffany D. Jackson. "X: A Novel follows Malcolm X’s life from his childhood — including his father being lynched and his mother being institutionalized against her will — up to his imprisonment at age twenty," per Variety. "The Awakening of Malcolm X picks up during his time in prison when he decided to join the Nation of Islam, ultimately emerging from incarceration as Malcolm X." In addition to writing the two books on her father, Shabazz also wrote Growing Up X, Betty Before X on her mother Betty Shabazz and the children's book Malcolm Little: The Boy Who Grew Up to Become Malcolm X.
