Larter released a statement to TVLine responding to Roberts' lengthy essay for Variety that, in part, detailed his "volatile relationship" with the actress who played his wife on and off screen. His essay also touched on the racism he alleged to have experienced while working on the NBC drama. He alleged that Larter was uncomfortable performing intimate scenes with him, but not with co-star Adrian Pasdar. Roberts said he was fired from the show because of the tension with Larter. “I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on Heroes and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show,” the actress said in her statement. “I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played in his painful experience during that time and I wish him and his family the very best.”
