The streaming service's potential drama based on Stieg Larsson's character Lisbeth Salander from his Millennium series will be standalone. The series, titled The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, won't be "a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or the films into which they were adapted. It will instead take Salander and place her in today’s world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story," reports Variety. Salander is the primary character from the Swedish author's Millennium series, of which he completed three books before his death in 2004. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was turned into a 2009 Swedish film and a 2011 American film directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Claire Foy played Salander in the 2018 film The Girl in the Spider's Web. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will be produced by Left Bank Pictures, the British production company that is also behind The Crown, Quiz and Strike Back. No writer or lead actress is currently attached to the series.
