Asimov's epic science fiction novel trilogy, which was originally published as a short story series in 1942, has been given a 10-episode series order, with Da Vinci's Demons creator David S. Goyer and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator Josh Friedman serving as executive producers. Asimov's daughter, Robyn Asimov, will also serve as a producer on the series, described as "a complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire." Apple's greenlight ends a long road to adapting Foundation as a movie or TV series. As Deadline notes, "the trilogy had been tried numerous times as a feature film at Fox, Warner Bros. and then at Sony. Many top sci-fi writers have done scripts and found it daunting to constrict the sprawling saga to a feature film format. Most recently, HBO tried developing a series several years ago."
