Bashir returned to BBC in 2016 as BBC News’ religious affairs correspondent, a job he left earlier this year before an investigation found that he had manipulated Diana to secure his famous 1995 interview. In light of the investigation, Bashir's rehire was called "scandalous." But an 11-page review found that Bashir was re-hired because “his knowledge and experience were considered to be the best match to the requirements for the role at that time."
