Black actresses have long complained about the neglect of Black female hair on TV and movie sets, but Black man have also run into problems with on-set barbers and hair stylists who are unfamiliar with Black hair. “I’m going to preface this by saying, ‘No, you don’t have to be Black to proficiently work on Black clients when it comes to hair and makeup,” says City on a Hill star Aldis Hodge. “But, there is a consideration that is not given to Black men and women when it comes to the hair and makeup trailer. And there’s a lack of consideration when it comes to the inception of having Black cast members come on and giving them the environment to win, to thrive.”
