Costas, a veteran of 12 Olympic Games for NBC Sports, tells Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time that he doesn't think the Summer Games should proceed given the ongoing pandemic. But if the Summer Games are moved to 2022, "then as a one-off it would go back to the way it was prior to the ’90s." 1992 was the last year the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics were held in the same calendar year. When Maher asked Costas if it’s wrong to think the International Olympic Committee as “shady.” Costas responded: “It’s not wrong. They have an affinity for authoritarian regimes. They’ll be back in Beijing for the Winter Olympics. They were in Sochi (Russia) in 2014. They were in Beijing in 2008.”
