The Oscar-winning Captain Marvel star will play the lead and executive produce an untitled CIA drama for Apple based on the real-life experiences of CIA undercover operative Amaryllis Fox's upcoming memoir Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA. Apple ordered the project straight-to-series following a bidding war. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "the series is described as a provocative and contemporary look at a young woman’s journey in the CIA, told through the prism of her closest relationships." The Apple series marks a return to television for Larson, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for Room in 2016 and has had a thriving movie career. Larson previously starred on Diablo Cody's Showtime dramedy United States of Tara between 2009 and 2011. She has also recurred on Community and, as a child actress, played Bob Saget's daughter and Kat Dennings' sister on The WB 2001-02 comedy Raising Dad.
