"We're trying to figure out what Season 8 will look like and what New York will look like," co-creator Dan Goor, who opened the Season 8 writers' room on Monday, tells Mashable. "Our guys are first responders in New York City, so it's a very difficult quandary to figure out how to do it in a way that acknowledges this horrible pandemic, but doesn't dwell on it — because we are conscious of the fact that people have really enjoyed escaping into the show. But at the same time, it feels like if we completely ignore it then that's weird, and then you're going to stop relating to (the characters) as human beings who've gone through the same stuff you have."
