Showrunner Liz Tigelaar says she and her writing staff decided to make changes to the ending because "we thought there was an opportunity to create more mystery," as she tells Vulture. "I actually hope it took the end of the book and it just added even more complexity and layers to it because we had the space to do that,” Tigelaar adds in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Ng, a producer on the Hulu series, says she agreed with the changes. “I felt like it was consistent with who the characters were,” she tells The Times. “I’m sure there will be fans who are like, ‘That’s not how it happened in the book.’ But I don’t feel like it’s out of character, for that to happen. I feel like it’s just different.” Tigelaar says of Ng learning about the different ending: "If I’m remembering right, I think she knew that we were talking about maybe doing something different for the ending, but I don’t think she actually knew where we had landed until she read it," Tigelaar tells The A.V. Club. "And she said she loved it, and that’s just a testament to how generous Celeste has been with this adaptation. She’s been so supportive the whole time, and such a champion. I feel like that would be a very hard thing to do with something so personal and so successful the way it is in its own right. But she gave us room to grow and expand with the stories. So yeah, she was incredible." ALSO: Tigelaar says she doesn't expect Little Fires Everywhere to return for Season 2.
