Crump, known as "the Black Gloria Allred" for his representation of the families of George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, is the subject of a legal drama series and a documentary. Crump is teaming with House of Lies creator Matthew Carnahan and Nadia Hallgren, director of Michelle Obama's Becoming documentary, on a scripted TV series titled Stokes, based on his life and work fighting to change the problems within the justice system. Carnahan and Hallgren co-created Stokes, which will also be connected to separate Netflix documentary they worked on with Kenya Barris revolving around Crump. The scripted series doesn't have a streaming or network home. “Working with Ben Crump is a stark rebuttal of the old saying about never meeting your heroes," says Carnahan, who will serve as showrunner. "Three years in, through a documentary and this wonderful scripted series, Stokes, Ben is more my hero than ever, and his work has undoubtedly changed the culture." Hallgren adds: "Ben brings together the history of America with the present moment in unimaginable ways and I’m thrilled to be working with Matthew Carnahan to share this story through a scripted narrative format.”
