Chris McCarthy, whom Viacom put in charge of Comedy Central about six months ago, is trying to remake the cable network into a multi-platform content machine that appeals to the hard-to-reach demographic of viewers under the age of 25. That's why he recently ordered a Gen Z version of Beavis and Butt-Head and a reboot of Clone High, while officially greenlighting long-gestating Daria spinoff Jodie. “Gen Z is what we’re working on at Comedy Central today,” says the 45-year-old McCarthy. “It’s a generation I’m actually very comfortable with — my first network was MTV2, where we did comedy for Gen Z. They’re empowered. They’re resourceful. And they’re not looking for permission or gatekeepers. In many ways, they’re a DIY generation. And it’s that spirit that we will bring to the way that we’re reimagining Comedy Central.”
