The former U.S. senator made his first talk show appearance since resigning amid sexual harassment allegations in January 2018, appearing with his friend and SNL colleague Conan O'Brien. According to Matt Wilstein, the interview helped "rehabilitate" Franken, even though Conan did obliquely bring up the allegations against the former senator. "Overall, O’Brien was just about as sympathetic an interviewer as Franken could have asked for, going on to praise him for being a 'really effective, hard-working senator' and expressing how much he believes he’s missed now that the country is on the verge of impeachment hearings," says Wilstein. Franken's appearance came one day after it was announced Franken would host his own SiriusXM talk show.
