The breakout hit Freeform series is becoming an anthology for its second season, reports The Hollywood Reporter's Lesley Goldberg. Tia Napolitano, the showrunner for Season 1 after creator Bert V. Royal departed for creative reasons, is focusing on her family and will be replaced by Elle Triedman. Napolitano and Royal will still be credited as executive producers on Season 2, which begins filming today. The new cast includes Sadie Stanley, Eloise Payet, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore and Paul Adelstein. The casting reunites former Private Practice co-stars/family members Gluck, Strickland and Adelstein. "Sources say season one stars Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee and Brooklyn Sudano knew when they signed on that there was a possibility that Cruel Summer could go the anthology route in season two," reports Goldberg. "The cast was informed of the decision to reset the series with a new story as soon as a formal decision was made some time after the season one finale."
