Horowitz, a 15-time Emmy winner who died last week at age 81, was an icon on Los Angeles' NBC affiliate for two decades with his Fight Back! consumer advocacy show. His work on Los Angeles TV led to more than 40 appearances on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. Carson frequently parodied Horowitz as "David Howitzer, Consumer Supporter." Horowitz also played himself on NBC shows, including Saved by the Bell, The Golden Girls, ALF and Silver Spoons. But Horowitz is perhaps best known for a 1987 incident in which a deranged man took him hostage at gunpoint during KNBC's live 4 p.m. newscast.
