For four years, the Daytime Emmys handed out the award for outstanding musical performance in a daytime program -- but not anymore. In just a short time, the award enabled Cynthia Erivo, Ben Platt, Rachel Bay Jones, Katrina Lenk and Ari'el Stachel to pull within one award of claiming EGOT status. All five won a Tony, a Grammy and a Daytime Emmy for their work in, and support of, a single Broadway show. But critics found it absurd that somebody like, say, Ben Platt could win an Emmy for simply performing his Broadway role on TV.
