Stockton was the last original announcer from the start of Fox's NFL package in 1994. In announcing his retirement Thursday after 55 years in broadcasting, Fox Sports said that Stockton had called 1,545 televised sporting events, a record for a U.S. sports broadcaster. Among them was Carlton Fisk's walk-off home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, which earned Stockton iconic status because of his 36 seconds of silence.
