The president's Friday afternoon tweet unveiling the United States Space Force logo has drawn comparisons to Starfleet, the fictional fleet of exploratory and peacekeeping starships at the heart of the Star Trek franchise. "Ahem. We are expecting some royalties from this...," Star Trek star George Takei quickly tweeted in response, adding: "There is nothing sacred any more." But as Vox points out: "In fairness, Space Force is not the first arm of the United States military to borrow from Star Trek. Indeed, it appears that the Air Force may have found similar inspiration from the venerable science-fiction franchise." The Air Force Space Command -- the Space Force's predecessor -- has been using a similar logo since at least 2004. Vox's Matthew Yglesias adds: "I would just note that the first space shuttle was named Enterprise, so Trek homage is nothing new for government space efforts. Big problem is the Space Force should use naval ranks like Starfleet instead of this Air Force nonsense."
