Ellen DeGeneres marked the 15th-season kickoff of her talk show by telling Ryan Seacrest on his radio show that she was told she couldn’t reference her then-relationship with Anne Heche. “This was a show that nobody wanted to buy,” she said. “They really didn’t think anyone would watch a lesbian during the day and, at the time, no one wanted to see a lesbian at night either. So I was really out of options.”
