Hughes, director of the 2017 Dr. Dre-Jimmy Iovine HBO docuseries The Defiant Ones, will work with The Shakur Estate to tell the story of the iconic late rapper and Afeni, his activist mom. Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur is described as “an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever.” Hughes will have access to Tupac's released and unreleased recordings, writings and poetry. ALSO: FX unveiled its docuseries slate, including LGBTQ civil rights docuseries Pride, Hip Hop Untold, The Most Dangerous Animal of All, Errol Morris' A Wilderness of Error, plus the documentary film Women in Comedy.
