Grossman, 86, launched Frontline and is responsible for PBS Newshour being one hour by doubling the length of the MacNeil/Lehrer Report. Under his watch, PBS also became the first broadcast network to deliver its programming by satellite. Grossman went on to head NBC News, where he was forced out because he couldn't reverse the ratings decline on Today and NBC Nightly News.
