GLAAD’s annual “Where We Are on TV” report found that the total number of LGBTQ characters fell from 10.2% to 9.1%. But GLAAD expects "real growth" after many of the shows that were sidelined due to the coronavirus get back into production. GLAAD also found that the loss or sidelining of inclusive shows like How to Get Away with Murder, Stumptown, GLOW and The L Word: Generation Q points to how a few shows are responsible for LGBTQ representation. GLAAD also notes that “out power players” Greg Berlanti, Lena Waithe and Ryan Murphy, along with Shonda Rhimes, this year accounted for 17% of all LGBTQ representation, with 62 of the 360 characters. About 5% of all shows account for 17% of LGBTQ characters.
