Concepción, a trans Latina writer on both Netflix series, committed suicide last week on the same day that Gentefied dropped its first season, reports Variety. Concepción was most recently a staff writer on zombie series Daybreak. She also was a writers' assistant on Gentefied, co-writing the ninth episode of Season 1. Concepción, who was also an actress and activist, emerged from Transparent creator Jill Soloway's gender parity 50/50 by 2020 initiative. “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Camila Concepción,” Netflix said in a statement. “She made bold and critical contributions to our industry, most recently through her incredible writing on Gentefied, and her legacy will live on through her work. Our thoughts are with her family and friends in this time of loss."
