The streaming service has begun working on two shows that would share a universe based on Martin's Wild Cards book series, with writer Andrew Miller penning both series. The Wild Cards franchise is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "a shared universe of anthologies, mosaic novels and stand-alone stories written by a collection of authors and edited by Martin and co-editor (Melinda) Snodgrass." The first book was published in 1987, with 27 total books released so far. The book series explores the aftermath of an alien virus, called the "Wild Card" virus, released over Manhattan in 1946 that killed 90 percent of those it infected.
