The Wrap reports that the Good Morning America anchor "has his eye on the lucrative position and that his team was lobbying hard at ABC." In May, Howard Stern suggested to his friend Stephanopoulos that he should succeed Trebek. "The first thing I said was 'George Stephanopoulos' and everyone went, 'That ain't crazy,''' said Stern. "You've got the intellectual capacity." Stephanopoulos responded: "I think it would be a lot of fun, but I like what I'm doing too. I am not going to be Shermanesque about it. It's a great show. It's very flattering. Big shoes to fill."
