Weiss, who won an Emmy for directing the Oscars, has directed the Tony Awards telecast 18 times. In fact, he met his new fiancé at the Tonys in 2001. "Glenn has produced and directed the Tonys for CBS for many years, and is known as an unforgiving stickler when it comes to keeping acceptance speeches to the allotted 45 seconds," a "theater pro" tells Page Six. One theater exec said “every year, Glenn gives this pompous speech to all the nominees, lecturing everyone about how the clock starts the second your name is called and that going long is unfair to your fellow nominees because it eats time for everyone whose categories come later in the evening.” Weiss did admit last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that his proposal was ironic knowing how directors like to cut off award show speeches.
