The comedian and former host of Talk Show the Game Show is developing a comedy based on his life with the help of producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. In the potential series, "after his father’s death, a gay lawyer (Branum) moves his mom and niece from their small conservative farm town to West Hollywood, upsetting their lives but helping them find a new definition of family," per Deadline. Branum rose to fame as Chelsea Handler's "Staff Homosexual" on Chelsey Lately. He went on to write for The Mindy Project and recur on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell before landing Talk Show the Game Show, which lasted on TruTV from 2017 to 2018. Branum first made national headlines in 1997 when the Secret Service searched his apartment after he wrote a satirical student newspaper column on then-Stanford freshman Chelsea Clinton, calling for UC Berkeley students to "show your school spirit on Chelsea's bloodied carcass" while naming her dorm.
