The ABC high school sitcom that ran from 1986 to 1991 is being updated for HBO Max. "Head of the Class is about a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a teacher who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life," according to the official description. Lawrence will executive produce the pilot with American Vandal alums Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen serving as writers and co-showrunners. Head of the Class ran for 114 episodes and five seasons, revolving around a group of academically gifted high school students at a New York City high school and their eccentric substitute history teacher, played by Howard Hesseman. Head of the Class' other stars included Robin Givhan, future Nickelodeon teen show mastermind Dan Schneider and Billy Connolly, who replaced Hesseman as teacher for the final season. Connolly went on to star in the short-lived spinoff Billy, co-starring Johnny Galecki.
