The departures of CEO Richard Plepler, Game of Thrones, Veep and numerous staffers is closing out a golden era for the premium cable channel. "HBO was always a bespoke but well-funded experience with some very elegant people," says a TV literary agent. "But if they were taste-driven, now they're appetite-driven." As The Hollywood Reporter notes, HBO still has a "murderers' row of A-list talent and buzzy projects" that is for "at least the time being...helping HBO maintain appearances....But, on the day-to-day, things already feel different on the inside."
