Cavill, who starred on Showtime's The Tudors from 2007 to 2010, will take a break from playing Superman on the big screen to star in the eight-episode TV adaptation of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy book series. Cavill is said to be a fan of The Witcher short stories and novels, which showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich is adapting for television. He'll play the main character Geralt of Rivia, described as "a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."
