“I was very very passionate about the games," Cavill said at Com-Con. "I thought, ‘I really hope they make this into a TV show or movie.’” Cavill badgered his agents to get a meeting with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who at the time had yet to start writing the script. “He was really annoying,” Hissrich said. “I finally said, ‘I will meet with you. The show is not green-lit. There is nothing.’ I said, ‘Thank you. Now I have to go write the show.’” Hissrich did her due diligence and read with a total of 206 actors for the part of Geralt. But she kept thinking of Cavill. “It was something I wasn’t going to let pass me by without giving it my best shot,” added Cavill. “I annoyed my agents all the time. They said, ‘They’re not ready.’”
