To ensure accuracy, the HBO series added writer Carl Capotorto, who played Little Paulie on The Sopranos. Capotorto actually lived New York City's gay life in the 1970s. Capotorto, says David Simon, "steered us away from some of our presumptions and steered us to stuff that we didn’t know about or would’ve gotten wrong."
