The CW has opted not to cancel of its current TV series, not counting the pre-planned shows exiting -- iZombie, Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The CW's decision to bring back 14 series is so unusual that the last time a network had a no-cancelation season was in the early 1980s. What is happening? As Rick Porter points out, freshman network shows are more like survive these days because they are owned by corporate siblings. "The CW gets all of its shows from co-owners WarnerMedia and CBS Corp., and ... it doesn't really operate on the traditional broadcast model where gathering as many viewers — or at least as many demographically desirable viewers — as possible is the game," says Porter. "The network has been moving toward a no-cancellation season in recent years; not including pre-announced endings, it hasn't axed more than two shows in a single season since 2013-14."
