Under pressure from the LGBTQ community, IMDb has decided to allow transgender performers to remove their birth names, but only in certain instances. “IMDb now permits the removal of birth names if the birth name is not broadly publicly known and the person no longer voluntarily uses their birth name,” a spokesperson told Variety. Laverne Cox's IMDb page no longer lists her birth name. But Caitlyn Jenner and Chaz Bono have their birth names listed for productions they starred in before transitioning. LGBTQ groups have been objecting to IMDb's continued publication of transgender performers' birth names, citing "dead-naming," when a birth name is used is either intentionally or unintentionally.
