The Renée Zellweger-starring Netflix drama was "news to me," says Jack Engelhard, whose book inspired the 1993 movie starring Demi Moore, Robert Redford and Woody Harrelson. When reviews of the show came out, Engelhard said he received “at least 20 phone calls saying, ‘Congratulations, Jack, you did it again!’ I said, ‘What did I do?’” What/If, from Revenge creator Mike Kelley, pays homage to Indecent Proposal, even having a character exclaim: “This whole idea was ripped out of a bad ’90s movie.” Engelhard called his lawyer to see if he can take legal action, but he was told he had no claim and to "be happy." “Some credit to the novelist might be fair, for producing a moral dilemma that captivated the world," said Engelhard, who doesn't seem to be bitter since a remake of the film and a musical version is in the works.
