FX has given a record-setting pickup to the long-running FXX comedy, which last season tied ABC's The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series with Season 14. The renewal comes four months after Rob McElhenney said at the TV press tour “we’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching.” McElhenney has been working with It's Always Sunny collaborator Charlie Day on Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet. In unveiling that show's trailer in January, McElhenney tweeted: "Here’s the new show. Charlie Day & I would like to cut the death threats off by saying this will in no way affect Sunny. Sunny Always. Always Sunny. But also @mythic_quest There’s room for both you animals. Enjoy!" It's Always Sunny has been gunning to break Ozzie and Harriet's record. As Charlie Day told The Wrap in May 2018, "I think 15 is the record for a comedy, so I imagine we’ll all want to hold the record for the longest-running comedy in America. Fifteen would be the record for the longest live-action comedy, so we’ll probably try and break that record if we can.” ALSO: McElhenney says Season 15 will tackle coronavirus, even though It's Always Sunny already did a quarantine episode in 2013.
