Tareq and Michaele Salahi created a major scandal when they penetrated layers of security to attend the White House state dinner for India on Nov. 24, 2009. "It was unthinkable that reality TV stars with a sketchy background and no political credibility could crash the White House," Washington Post reporter Roxanne Roberts, who broke the story with fellow reporter Amy Argetsinger, tweeted today. "We were appalled that anyone would repeatedly lie to get into a state dinner for personal gain. In retrospect, they were just ahead of their time." Argetsinger added that they "thought at this time this would certainly be the wildest White House story ever and oh go ahead make up your own joke."
