Peele, who starred on the Fox late-night sketch show for five seasons, became the first MADtv writer or performer to win an Oscar with his award for best original screenplay for Get Out. Saturday Night Live didn't see one of its former writers or performers win an Oscar until just two years ago, when former head writer Adam McKay won for best adapted screenplay for The Big Short at the 2016 Academy Awards. SNL's only Oscar winner is original music director Howard Shore, who went on to win three Academy Awards for The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
