June Whitfield, Absolutely Fabulous' Mother, dies at 93

Whitfield was best known for starring on Ab Fab as the mom of Jennifer Saunders' Edina. "Mother — that was the official name of Ms. Whitfield’s character — looked the part of the kind, proper, white-haired London granny in sweater sets and pearls, but she had a gift for the cutting remark," writes Anita Gates. Whitfield played Mother through Ab Fab's entire 1992-2012 run, and reprised the role for the 2016 movie.
