Thompson and Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels are re-teaming on Saving Larry, a single-camera comedy in which the longtime SNL cast member will play a father who has to serve as both mom and dad to his kids after their mother dies -- with his father-in-law "hovering over him." Deadline reports Saving Larry is "one of the biggest deals for a comedy project so far this season" at NBC, and that Thompson "would likely leave (SNL) — at least as a full-time cast member — should Saving Larry goes to series as the two would difficult to juggle." Michaels will serve as executive producer of Saving Larry, with Superstore executive producer Jackie Clarke writing the potential series. Thompson is entering a record-setting 16th season on SNL. This isn't the first time Thompson and Michaels were attached to an NBC family sitcom project. In 2012, Michaels developed a Thompson multi-generational family comedy from recent SNL head writer Bryan Tucker. That project only had a script commitment.
