The actor known for playing Eddie Haskell on Leave It to Beaver, who died today at age 76, was an LAPD motorcycle cop who was shot multiple times in the line of duty in 1980. He retired 1988 after 18 years on the force. "After his successful run on one of the most popular shows of all time, he chose to protect and to serve the residents of Los Angeles, and I’m proud to have been able to call him a law enforcement partner," LAPD Chief Michel Moore told The Hollywood Reporter. "He will be missed.” Meanwhile, Beaver co-star Jerry Mathers paid tribute to Osmond on Twitter. "I will greatly miss my lifelong friend Ken Osmond who I have known for over 63 years," Mathers tweeted. "I have always said that he was the best actor on our show because in real life his personality was so opposite of the character that he so briliantly portrayed. RIP dear friend."
