Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt will reprise their 1990s NBC hit sitcom roles in a 12-episode "limited series" Mad About You revival that is expected to premiere later this year on Spectrum Originals. Last year, Spectrum saved Bad Boys spinoff L.A.'s Finest, ordering the Gabrielle Union-Jessica Alba drama after it was rejected by NBC as its first original series. Rescue Me co-creator Peter Tolan will serve as Mad About You's showrunner, while Danny Jacobson -- who co-created the show with Reiser -- will serve as an "executive consultant." Hunt will direct the first episode “We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain,” Reiser and Hunt said in a joint statement. “We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show — as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!” According to TVLine, NBC passed on the Mad About You revival right away and the project had trouble finding other network suitors. Season 8 is expected to revolve around Paul and Jamie Buchman grappling with empty-nest syndrome with Mabel, now 17, headed off to college. Last July, Reiser expressed pessimism about the Mad About You revival's chances, telling the Tampa Bay Times: "It may not happen. It likely won’t happen. My guess is it won’t happen."
