Major League Baseball experiences its first work stoppage in 26 years

The league enacted ae lockout at midnight ET Thursday after MLB's 30 clubs and the players failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement before the expiration of the previous five-year pact. The last work stoppage that began in the 1994 season resulted in the cancelation of that year's World Series, continuing into the 1995 season and leading to the cancelation of more than 900 games.
