Popular Twitter user PixelatedBoat created a fake book excerpt that aimed to satirize Michael Wolff’s new tell-all on the Trump White House, depicting a White House where staffers had to invent a 24-hour Gorilla Channel to appease the president. As Matt Novak points out, the excerpt was “outlandishly over the top.” But that didn’t stop some Twitter users, including a New York Times technology writer, from thinking it was real. When the fake excerpt went viral last night, PixelatedBoat changed his Twitter name to “the gorilla channel thing is a joke” so people would stop being fooled. He also tacked on a response to the original tweet: "(that feeling when) you parody a guy making up shit about Trump but people believe it so you become part of the problem."
