Bomer will lead Showtime's adaptation of Thomas Mallon's 2007 novel from Philadelphia writer Ron Nyswaner, who will serve as executive producer. "Fellow Travelers is described as a political thriller and epic love story that unfolds in the era of McCarthyism and resolves in the age of AIDS," per Variety. "It follow the intertwined lives and volatile romance of two very different men, Hawkins 'Hawk' Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Kovacs, through purges, wars, protests, and plagues, overcoming obstacles in the world and in themselves." Bomer is currently starring on HBO Max's Doom Patrol. Nyswaner, a noted gay rights activist, earned an Oscar nomination for writing the 1993 Tom Hanks-Denzel Washington film Philadelphia. He is no stranger to Showtime, having served as a co-executive producer on Homeland and Ray Donovan.
