Mayim Bialik responds to backlash accusing her of victim-blaming in her New York Times Harvey Weinstein Op-Ed

Patricia Arquette was among those who rebuked The Big Bang Theory star, who seemed to suggest that Weinstein’s alleged victims were partly to blame for the way they dressed and for their actions. “I still make choices every day as a 41-year-old actress that I think of as self-protecting and wise. I have decided that my sexual self is best reserved for private situations with those I am most intimate with. I dress modestly,” she wrote. “I don’t act flirtatiously with men as a policy.” As Emily Gaudette points out about Bialik, “in a single essay, she manages to victim blame, congratulate herself for her own 'modesty,' describe attractive women in myriad mean-spirited ways, plug The Big Bang Theory, and vastly misunderstand rape culture.” In response to her critics, Bialik tweeted, “I also see a bunch of people have taken my words out of context of the Hollywood machine and twisted them to imply that God forbid I would blame a woman for her assault based on her clothing and behavior.”
