Towne, who won an Oscar for writing Roman Polanski's famous 1974 film starring Jack Nicholson, is teaming with Gibson to bring late novelist James Crumley's hardboiled crime novel to the small screen. Even though Dancing Bear hasn't been greenlighted, Gibson is expected to direct the pilot script that Towne wrote. “It’s basically Chinatown set in a 7-11 in Montana in the 70’s with a whole lot of cocaine," says Gibson.
