"I actually talked to a lot of female writers on your staff, and it was great to research that because all of my experience is in the scripted half-hour world,” Kaling said during her Late Show visit Thursday. “It actually made me have a real newfound respect for you.” Kaling also discussed using her experience writing for The Office for her new film, in which she plays a late-night show writer hired by Emma Thompson's late-night host character.
